The telecom & data tower has been in use since 1957 and has served as a radio and television tower for the last couple of years. The 157-meter-high radio mast was actually 20 meters higher. When the antenna was replaced by KPN in 2007, they were able to use a shorter antenna. They didn’t need the space for analog radio stations, after all. This tower is built according to the same principles as the towers of Hoogersmilde and IJsselstein, but is significantly smaller.
Since June 2014, the telecom & data tower of Roermond houses a one of Cellnex’s large datacenters. With this location, the Limburg region was also given access to the datacenter of the future. During the opening, the green light was given for the Smart Art Challenge, a design competition for the children of Roermond. Primary school Neel from Roermond won the challenge.
